    White Sand Canoe Rental operates Whiskey Chitto Recreation Area. We are located on lower Ouiska Chitto Creek on Highway 26 bridge in Mittie, Louisiana just 10 miles west of Oberlin.

    Officially recognized as one of Louisiana's Scenic Waterways, the Ouiska Chitto's easy-flowing, cool, clear spring fed waters and white sandy beaches are very much the same today as they were 100 years ago.

    The canoe trip enters the creek at the Highway 26 bridge and covers about 10 miles. The trip lasts 4 - 6 hours. and White Sand is the first pick up point on the river.  All others have to continue on for almost another hour.  Overnight trips are also available upon request.  We are the only canoe rental business with a private launch and pick up location.
    We are open 7 days a week with trips starting a 7:AM to Noon and Pick up's from 2:PM to 5:PM.

    In and effort to expedite your sign up process, please down load, print and fill out the following forms and bring them with you.

     

     

     

    Remember to Bring:

  • Sunscreen
  • River shoes
  • T-shirt for sun protection or if it turns cool
  • Hat
  • Sun glasses (not your favorites) with strap
  • Water in plastic bottles
  • Food and/or snacks
  • Bag for your trash
  • Underwater or disposable camera
  • Towel: Leave an extra one in your car
  • Insect repellent 
  • NO GLASS
